Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) Permit Application
For applicants seeking a Limited X-Ray Machine Operator permit. LXMO permittees apply ionizing radiation in a physician’s office, radiology clinic, or licensed hospital under the specific direction of a licensed practitioner.
At a glance: An LXMO is a permit, not a license. LXMO permittees may not perform fluoroscopy, contrast studies, computed tomography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy studies, or mammography.
Fee: $50.00, payable at completion of the application. View full fee schedule.
Permit validity: Valid until the second occurrence of June 30 after the permit is issued. If issued after April 1, valid until the third occurrence of June 30.
Renewal: Biennial. 12 hours of Board-approved continuing education required per renewal period (6 hours must be in radiation protection).
Important rules before you start
Education requirement. Applicants for a Limited X-Ray Operator permit must submit the Limited X-Ray Machine Operator Application and submit proof of completion of 12 hours of Board-approved education in radiologic technology, with 6 of those hours specifically in radiation protection.
Permit validity. The cost of license application is $50, which may be tendered at the completion of the application. The permit is valid until the second occurrence of June 30 after the permit is issued. However, if the permit is issued after April 1, it is valid until the third occurrence of June 30 after the permit is issued.
Not for chiropractor or dental office employees. If you are employed by a chiropractor or dental office, do NOT submit an application to MSBML. Contact the Mississippi Board of Chiropractic Examiners or the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners for information on licensing. A refund will not be issued for applications submitted in error.
Application Progress. Once an application has been submitted, the application progress may be reviewed via the applicant’s Licensure Gateway. Applicants can use MELS (Mississippi Enforcement and Licensure System) to log in and access progress updates.
Refund Policy. No refunds will be issued under any circumstances.
