Permanent Licensure
A permanent license entitles the physician to practice medicine within the state of Mississippi.
Fee: $550, payable after submission of the online application.
License validity: Valid until June 30 of the current renewal year. If issued after April 1, valid until June 30 of the following year.
Renewal: Annually.

All applications are submitted online through MELS (Mississippi Enforcement and Licensure System). First-time users must register and create a username and password.

Renewing a Permanent License
Permanent licenses must be renewed annually.
Administrative Licensure
An administrative medical license allows the licensee to engage in professional, managerial, or administrative activities related to the practice of medicine or the delivery of health care services. It does not permit the practice of clinical medicine or medical research.
Applicants must provide a notarized statement confirming they will not provide medical or clinical services to patients while holding an administrative medical license.
Fee: $550, payable after submission of the online application.
License validity: Valid until June 30 of the current renewal year. If issued after April 1, valid until June 30 of the following year.

Renewing an Administrative License
Administrative licenses must be renewed annually.
Temporary Licensure
A restricted temporary license entitles the physician to practice medicine only within the confines of an ACGME- or AOA-approved postgraduate training program in Mississippi.
Applications cannot be submitted until three (3) months prior to the applicant's postgraduate training program start date.
Fee: $50, payable at the completion of the application process.
License validity: If issued after April 1, valid until June 30 of the following year.

Volunteer License
A Volunteer license is available to retired physicians and physician assistants, and to active-duty or retired military physicians and physician assistants, who wish to provide services to indigent populations in Mississippi without compensation.
