LXMO Permit Renewal

LXMO Permit Renewal

Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) permits are valid for two years and renewed through MELS (Mississippi Enforcement and Licensure System).

Fee: $50, plus a convenience fee, payable through MELS. View full fee schedule.

Permit cycle: Biennial (every two years).

CE requirement: 12 hours of Board-approved continuing education per renewal period, with 6 hours specifically in radiation protection and safety.

How to Renew

  1. Log in to MELS

    Sign in at the MELS gateway using your existing username and password.

  2. Complete your renewal in MELS

    Follow the prompts in MELS to complete your renewal.

  3. Attest to your continuing education

    As part of the renewal, you will attest, through an attestation statement, that you have completed 12 hours of Board-approved continuing education during the current renewal period, with 6 hours specifically in radiation protection.

  4. Submit the renewal and pay

    Pay the biennial renewal fee through MELS. Once your renewal is submitted and paid, your renewal is complete.

Keep your CE records: Renewals may be audited. If your renewal is selected for audit, you will be notified, and MELS will open an upload window for you to submit your continuing education documentation. CE evidence is otherwise only uploaded with an initial application, not at renewal.

Continuing Education Requirements

Per Mississippi Law (§41-58-7), each Limited X-Ray Machine Operator must submit evidence to the Board of completing 12 hours of continuing education in a two-year period, with 6 of those hours specifically in radiation protection.

First-time LXMO operators must complete 12 hours of education in radiologic technology, with 6 of those hours specifically in radiation protection, no later than 12 months after the date of employment to apply ionizing radiation.
