In March 2023, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) asked FSMB to alert state medical boards to actions that may impact nursing home facilities and licensees. This issue involves CMS's monitoring of antipsychotic medication use in nursing homes amid concern that nursing home residents may be inappropriately prescribed antipsychotic medications as a result of being misdiagnosed and coded as having schizophrenia.
