Renia R. Dotson, M.D.

Dr. Renia Dotson

Dr. Renia Dotson is the Director of the Center for Public Health Transformation at the Mississippi State Department of Health. She previously practiced general and colon and rectal surgery for more than 20 years within the Delta Health System. Her leadership in Mississippi healthcare includes service on multiple boards and committees, among them the Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure, the Mississippi Board of Nursing, the Office of Mississippi Physician Workforce Advisory Board, and the Mississippi State Medical Association Board of Trustees. She also completed the Physician Leadership Academy at MSMA and received a Doctor of Distinction award. Dr. Dotson is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association.

A native of Monroeville, Alabama, Dr. Dotson earned her biology degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1988, and her medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She went on to complete an M.P.H. in healthcare organization and policy and an M.B.A. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Board-certified in general and colon and rectal surgery, she completed her general surgery residency at Boston University and her fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Colon and Rectal Clinic in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Dotson resides in Greenville, Mississippi, with her husband, Dr. Wayne Dotson. They have two children. Her current term on the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure runs through June 30, 2026.
